Sooo....Occasionally I order prints of my work, in poster size, through places like zazzle or cafepress. I recently found out that Walmart does prints and decided get a few test prints through them, in 8x10, to see what their quality was like. I sent the Blanche and Mirrah WIP sheets, along with the Diana: Let Your Hair Down piece. I go to pick them up and and that's where the "fun" begins. When I arrive for pickup they have them in an envelope marked "Professional". Turns out, they thought the works were professional and started asking for copyright release forms and all other sorts of documentation. My response? "They aren't professional and they aren't even photos." They would not give me my own work. How can I give a release form on something that isn't copyrighted? I showed them everything I could to prove it, including forwarding them here where both my name and photo can be found in my profile, right along side all the pics. He says that's not enough. I had to fight with them for over 25 minutes before they'd even let me get them. They called some official hotline and even made me sign waivers stating it's mines and threatening me with FBI investigations and violations, if it's determined I was printing another persons work. In short, it was a serious pain in the butt, and left a VERY sour first impression. I understand the need to protect content but it was a total overreaction in my opinion. How much proof can I possibly provide, short of bringing in my comp and showing the PSD files layer by layer? I figured I could use them to get cheap prints just to have copies of my character sheets, but if I have to go through that every time I want something printed, all the value is lost. I'll try a different Walmart and see what happens, as the quality was nice, but there won't be three strikes. It happens a second time, there's a very close curb Walmart will be tossed to.
